Is Media to Blame?

Power of the media

For as long as there have been media, there have been those who blame the media for society’s ills. Others believe that critics are just trying to place the blame on a convenient target. How do you feel about this debate? Why?

In the advancement of our technologically driven society, I believe media plays an enormous part of how news is perceived. While I do not feel as though the media is actually to blame for the pre-existing problems we have today, I wholeheartedly believe in its power to manipulate, intensify, and magnify issues.

The “we want it now” mentality of the world has advanced technology to the point of receiving breaking news within seconds. Whether intelligent, or not, people use media outlets as their source of truth without doing any research to actually support what those news releases are stating. I believe the old saying, “Negativity breeds negativity,” is true, and the media loves to sell negativity!

“The media’s the most powerful entity on earth. They have the power to make the innocent guilty and to make the guilty innocent, and that’s power. Because they control the minds of the masses.” –Malcolm X

  1. I absolutely agree with you. I also believe that the mentality that we have about wanting things now plays a vital role in how we receive news. Since the media has made everything easily accessible we just accept the first thing we see in a result of laziness.
